As much as possible, I like to see, smell and feel live greenery in my environments. 'Live' as in REAL because over here, we get a myriad of plastic & fabric fake plants including grasses, flowers & whole trees at prices ranging from dirt cheap (usually for products of poorer workmanship) to exorbitant (for products which actually looks BETTER than the real thing! Go figure).
With this in mind, I've slowly but surely "invaded" my office space with live plants, some taken from home and others, store bought. Taking care of indoor plants especially in a dry airless office space is difficult even when I'm using suitable plants ie. those that don't need too much care, can withstand dry airless conditions and are happy/tolerant of artificial lighting.
Concerns about overwatering [ah, a number of plants have sadly met this end, including a Sansevieria-Mother In Law's Tongue/Devil's Tongue], underwatering [surprisingly, a Sansevieria was a casualty! Sansiveras are usually tolerant of infrequent watering], sufficient humidity for plants [usually by putting a mulch on top layer of flower pot, spritzing plants leaves with water and standing the flower pots on gravel-lined saucers], staving off attacks from pests [white mold? on leaves, unknown little black/brown bugs that burrow under the mulch of coir or pea gravel], giving adequate lighting, fertilising and keeping the plants tidy are some of the challenges faced. Occasionally, I'll give them a treat by watering them with harvested rain-water from home :)
But you know what? These challenges are gladly taken on because the pay-off from seeing real live plants in the office puts a spring in my steps and a smile on my face, every time :) Plus, I'm fairly certain the office air is fresher too these days as some of these plants are highly efficient in removing air pollutants!
Please meet some of my current office 'colleagues', a few are recuperating at home at the moment. Every time a plant looks distressed in the office, I'll lug it back for some TLC until it's strong again to battle with the unforgiving office environment! Ohh, my favourite is the last pic.
